Find help with payment methods, service charges, trip receipts, applicable GST information and booking-related refunds. Rules can differ between rides, tours, direct supplier payments and externally completed reservations.
Payment Methods and Charges
How do I pay for a BAJ ride?
Depending on the booking, payment methods may include a card payment processed through BAJ, cash paid directly to the driver, or the driver’s authorised EFTPOS facility. Available options are shown for the selected service.
Can I pay a taxi driver directly by cash or EFTPOS?
Yes, where that payment arrangement is allowed for the booking. Paying the driver directly does not automatically make the trip an off-platform booking when it was arranged through BAJ.
Does BAJ charge a service or convenience fee?
A separately disclosed BAJ platform charge may apply to eligible bookings. Review the displayed total and fee breakdown before confirming. The applicable amount can vary rather than being one fixed charge for every service.
Do tolls, airport access fees or parking cost extra?
Depending on the journey, additional permitted fees may apply. Material charges and conditions should be shown or disclosed through the booking process rather than unexpectedly added after confirmation.
What should I do if money was taken but no booking was confirmed?
First check your bank or card account for a temporary authorisation versus a final charge and review BAJ booking history. Contact BAJ Support with the booking reference, payment time and amount; avoid posting card details publicly.
GST and Receipts
Does BAJ provide a receipt for completed rides?
BAJ provides completed trip records and applicable receipt or taxable supply information through the Rider App for eligible platform bookings. The details shown depend on the transaction and relevant New Zealand tax rules.
Where do I download a BAJ GST receipt?
Open your completed ride in the BAJ Rider App and select the available receipt or invoice option. If information is missing or appears incorrect, contact support with the relevant trip reference.
Can the taxi driver also print a receipt?
A taxi driver may provide a printed receipt where appropriate printing equipment is available. The passenger may also use the BAJ booking record provided for the completed platform trip.
Does the driver have to be GST-registered for my BAJ receipt?
New Zealand marketplace GST obligations can apply differently from a driver’s wider registration status. BAJ handles applicable platform transaction records under the relevant rules. Drivers should ensure their GST details supplied to BAJ are correct.
Can I get an invoice for an externally booked hotel or tour?
If you completed and paid for a booking on another provider’s website, request the relevant invoice or receipt from that provider. BAJ should not issue an invoice for a separate external transaction it did not process.
Cancellations and Refund Eligibility
Can I cancel a Ride Bidding request free of charge?
A bid request may ordinarily be withdrawn without a booking cancellation charge before a bid or counteroffer is accepted and a binding booking is formed, unless that feature clearly discloses otherwise. Confirmed bookings have separate cancellation terms.
Is every BAJ booking fully refundable?
No. Refunds depend on the service, any conditions properly disclosed before purchase, the reason for cancellation and applicable consumer law. A change of mind does not always create a refund entitlement.
What happens if the service provider cancels my booking?
If a confirmed service is not supplied and no suitable alternative is accepted, a refund for the unperformed service will ordinarily be appropriate, along with any additional remedies required under New Zealand law.
How are tour and activity refunds different?
Tours may involve non-refundable admission tickets, accommodation components or supplier deadlines. Check the particular product’s booking conditions and the rights that apply if the purchased service is not provided.
What if I paid the driver cash and need a refund?
BAJ may investigate or coordinate an approved refund, but the driver or provider may physically hold the direct payment. BAJ and the provider should work together on the correct remedy rather than asking the customer to pay again.
Refund Processing and Disputes
How do I request a BAJ refund?
Use the official BAJ support or cancellation process and provide the booking reference, date, reason and payment method. Keep any relevant confirmation, screenshot or supporting documents.
When will an approved card refund arrive?
An approved card refund will ordinarily return to the original payment method, but your bank, card network or payment service may determine how quickly it becomes visible. There is no universal guaranteed processing time for every bank.
What if I disagree with a cancellation fee?
Contact BAJ Support with the booking reference and the details of the charge. The relevant disclosed conditions, actual booking history and New Zealand consumer rights should be reviewed.
Can a no-show affect my refund?
Yes. A no-show can have consequences under clearly disclosed booking conditions. If you dispute the no-show, provide the relevant pickup, communication or location evidence so the matter can be reviewed.
Need assistance with a particular booking? Use the support option shown in your BAJ app or the official BAJ website, and have your booking reference ready.
